William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare, one of the greatest playwright and poet, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in England in April 1564. William was the third of eight children. His father, John Shakespeare, was a successful glove maker, and his mother, Mary Arden, came from a respected farming family. During his childhood, Shakespeare attended the local grammar school, where he learned about Latin, Literature and grammar, all of which would later influence his storytelling.

By the time he was in his early twenties, Shakespeare had moved to London, where he became a member of a theatre company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, and was not only an actor but also a playwright. Over the years, he wrote numerous plays, including famous works like "Romeo and Juliet“, "Hamlet" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream“. Each performance was like a grand adventure, his clever use of language made his work not only popular back then but also relevant, even today!

Shakespeare also created over 150 sonnets about love, beauty and the fleeting nature of time. He continued to write and perform until his retirement in 1613, and though he passed away in 1616, his legacy lives on. Schools around the world still read his works, and countless movies and adaptations bring his characters to life.
